The town was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. Attractions in Dorking include Denbies Wine Estate, which is the largest vineyard in England. It covers an area of 265 acres. Polesden Lacey is a National Trust owned Edwardian house and estate in Great Bookham, near Dorking. It is one of the National Trust's most popular properties. Wotton House is a Grade II* listed former country house that is today used as a hotel. It was constructed during the seventeenth-century.
